Recognition

Adams’ age was verified by Guinness World Records (GWR) and Roger Thatcher, and was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) on an unknown date. Adams became the last surviving British person born in 1880 following the death of 110-year-old Kate Jones on 22 December 1990. She subsequently became the oldest living person in the UK, as well as the last surviving British person born before 1881, following the death of 115 year-old Charlotte Hughes on 17 March 1993.

Following Adams’s death on 8 December 1993, Rebecca Hewison became the UK’s oldest living person. Adams was then the fourth-oldest British person ever recorded, but as of 2021, she is the 15th-oldest.
