Bienvenida Vergara Jaén was born in Las Tablas, Los Santos, Panama, to Silverio Vergara and Francisca Jaén. She was the oldest of 12 children.
In 1922, she married Elias Cano. The couple had two daughters.
At the age of 108, she still had a living brother, Hipolito.
Bienvenida Vergara Jaén died in Las Tablas, Los Santos, Panama, on 6 June 2017 at the age of 113 years, 61 days.
Her age was verified by Gabriel Ainsworth, Anson Davis, Ricardo Pereira Lago and Santiago García Medina, and validated by the GRG on 26 April 2016.
