Umeno Arai [Japanese: 荒井うめの] was a Japanese supercentenarian who was the oldest living person in Nagano Prefecture at the time of her death.
Umeno Arai (荒井うめの) was born in Nagano City, Nagano Prefecture, Japan, on November 10, 1898.
At the age of 44, during the war, she was widowed when her husband died of illness. As a single mother, she raised her four children by working in agriculture.
In February 2009, at the age of 110, she fractured her leg. Later, she was hospitalized due to poor health on September 1 of the same year. Arai passed away from heart failure in a hospital in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, on September 21, 2009, at the age of 110 years and 315 days. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living person in Nagano Prefecture.
Her family described her as a gentle and warm person.
Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 2 October 2009 and later recognized by LongeviQuest.
