Soto Yamamoto [Japanese: 山本ソト] was a Japanese supercentenarian who was the oldest living person in Ishikawa Prefecture at the time of her passing.

BIOGRAPHY

Soto Yamamoto (山本ソト) was born in Hatta Town (now part of Kanazawa City), Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, on April 10, 1901.
She was the only girl among her brothers and was therefore raised with great care. As a child, she was told by her grandfather, “It is important to be kind to others. Children are Japan’s treasures and must be cherished.” Remarkably, she still remembered these words at the age of 106. She married around the age of 20 and had children.

Following the passing of Hina Shikawatari of Noto Town at age 113 on February 15, 2012, Yamamoto became the oldest living person in Ishikawa Prefecture.

She passed away in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, on September 17, 2012, at the age of 111 years and 160 days. After her death, Miyuki Kozaka of Hakusan City succeeded her as the prefecture’s oldest living person.

RECOGNITION

Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 14 June 2013 and later recognized by LongeviQuest.
