Sixta Tulia Aguinaga de Posada was born in Sopetrán, Antioquia Department, Colombia, on 22 April 1907. She was the eldest of three siblings, José Ángel and Rosa, both of whom she outlived. She married Pedro Pablo Posada in 1927, and together they had seven children—five sons and two daughters. Her husband died in 1990. She also outlived four of her children. At the age of 109, she had three living children: Mariela Posada, 77; Rodolfo Posada, 69; and Lucía Posada, 74.
From 1972 to 1978, she lived in Queens with her daughter Lucía and her granddaughters. She returned to Colombia in 1978 after the sudden death of her eldest son, León, and came back to Queens in 2001 for Erika’s wedding. She became a permanent resident of the United States in 2010.
Her family described her as a deeply religious woman who thanked God every day for His blessings.
Sixta Tulia Aguinaga de Posada passed away in LaGrange, New York, USA, on 6 October 2018, at the age of 111 years, 167 days.
Her age was listed as “pending validation” by the Latin American Supercentenarians (LAS).
