BIOGRAPHY

Patricia Liesa Cortina was born in Argavieso, Huesca, Spain, on 25 August 1909. She was the eldest daughter in her family and excelled academically at school, forming close relationships with her teachers. Recognizing her aptitude, they suggested to her father that she pursue teacher training. However, with several children to support, her father could not prioritize this path financially. Instead, she decided to train as a seamstress and milliner, where she also demonstrated remarkable skill and talent.

After spending some time in the city of Huesca to study and perfect her craft, she returned to her hometown and established her own tailoring studio. The business flourished, eventually growing to include several employees under her management. At the age of 25, after marrying, she moved to Bespén, where she continued her tailoring business. It was here that her three children also learned the trade under her guidance.

In the early 1960s, she relocated to Catalonia to live with her son Eleuterio in Barcelona. He had moved there years earlier to work as a tailor, following in his father’s footsteps.

At the age of 107, she had four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. At the time, she still possessed an excellent memory, recalling with precision the geography she had studied in school and the telephone numbers she had dialed countless times. She often remarked that her secret to staying fit and healthy was eating in moderation and remaining active. True to her word, she continued to sketch patterns in her notebook, take walks around her home, and step out onto the terrace to keep herself moving.

Patricia Liesa Cortina passed away in Barcelona, on 18 October 2019, at the age of 110 years, 54 days.
