Nellie Johnson was born in Loudon, Tennessee, USA, on 16 December 1906. Her parents were Joseph Johnson and Minnie Walton. She moved to Morristown at a young age, where she graduated from Morristown High School and later attended Morristown College. She grew up with five sisters—Clara, Cleo, Willie Joe, Daisy, and Elizabeth Johnson, as well as four brothers—Richard, Van, James, and Eugene Johnson.
Nell was a devoted member of Young’s Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and Treasurer for over forty years. She was also a class leader for fifty years and actively participated in the church choir, the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society, Christian Endeavor, and the Stewardess Board.
Throughout her life, Nell worked as a homemaker for many families and dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her church, family, and work.
Nellie Johnson passed away in Morristown, Tennessee, on 3 November 2017, at the age of Morristown, Tennessee.
