Maria Lazzeri was an Italian-born British supercentenarian. Her age has been validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO).
Maria Lazzeri was born in Tresana, Tuscany, Italy, on 15 March 1904. In 1924, she moved to Shettleston, Glasgow, where she worked in the family fish and chip shop as well as at the Eusebi deli. Remarkably, she continued working there until the age of 100.
Maria married Americo, with whom she shared her life until his passing in 1989. Together they had three sons: Luigi, Joseph, and Amerigo.
In 2008, she moved into Millbrae Care Home in Coatbridge.
Maria Lazzeri passed away in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, Scotland, on 13 February 2015, at the age of 110 year, 335 days. At the time of her passing, she had six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Following the death of 108-year-old Janet Brown on 16 May 2012, she became the oldest known living person in Scotland. Upon her own passing, she was likely succeeded by Jessie Mary Gallan (2 January 1906 – 26 March 2015) of Aberdeen.
Lazzeri’s age was verified by Dr. Andrew Holmes and Paolo Scarabaggio, and was validated by the ESO on 6 May 2021.
