BIOGRAPHY

Lucille Severine was born in Vernon Township, Trumbull County, Ohio, USA on 23 July
1905. She was the fifth of six children born to parents Mark Rudkin and Mary Ellen (née Connelly) Rudkin. Growing up on a farm, she lived in a house which had no electricity, and the family relied on kerosene lamps for light. As a child, the sight of a car was a novelty, and her school bus was pulled by horses.

She married Milton Severine, and went on to have four children together, where she was a housewife. The couple remained together for 48 years until Milton’s death in 1979. She continued to live on her own until the age of 101, when she decided to sell her home and live with her daughters. She moved into a nursing home about a month before her 109th birthday in 2014.

At the time of her 109th birthday in 2014, she was said to be in good shape, both mentally and physically. Aside from age-related hearing loss, she had no health complaints, and moved around with the aid of a walker.

At the age of 52, she began bowling, and continued this hobby for over 50 years, before stopping at the age of 104. At the age of 96, she achieved her highest bowling score – 206. A devout Catholic, she was active in her church for most of her life.

Her longevity was attributed to remaining active. “She was just a busy person, selling her baked goods in the neighborhood, fixing ladies’ hair and manicures, and she did a lot of upholstery work,” recalled her daughter. Throughout her neighborhood, she was known for her skills as a cook, and would often bake pies, cakes, rolls, and cinnamon buns.

Lucille Severine passed away in Windber, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, USA, on 10 September 2015, at the age of 110 years, 49 days.
