Laura Pitts was born in Faunsdale, Alabama, USA, on 25 November 1909, to parents Walter Garrett and Betty Jackson. As a young child, she moved with her family to Birmingham, where she would live for the rest of her life. There, she received her primary school education. Devoted to her faith, she was an active member of the Ephesus and South Park Seventh-Day Adventist churches for 78 years.
At some point, she married James Fulton Pitts, Sr., and the couple had two children: James Fulton Pitts, Jr. and Winona Beatrice Thompson. She had worked as a domestic worker in Mountain Brook, Alabama, and later took on a role as a cook in her daughter’s restaurant. She credited her longevity to her faith and a commitment to healthy eating.
At 110, she lived at Cherry Hill Retirement Center in Birmingham, where she still enjoyed participating in activities, reading, and doing word search puzzles.
Laura Pitts passed away in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, on 23 July 2020, at the age of 110 years, 241 days.
