Odom was born as Julia Munn on 9 March 1895 in Mississippi as the daughter of James and Melissa Munn. She and her husband, W. E. Odom, relocated to Gladewater, Texas, and operated a small country store.
Odom died on 17 March 2005 at the age of 110 years, 8 days. She was survived by her two or three children, as well as four or five grandchildren, 14 or 25 great-grandchildren, four or 19 great-great-grandchildren (sources differ), and seven great-great-great-grandchildren.
For Odom’s 110th birthday, the mayor of Gladewater declared 9 March to be “Julia Odom Day.”
Odom’s age was verified by Filipe Prista Lucas and validated by the GRG on 12 February 2006.
