Died:

Hyppolite Cadou was a French supercentenarian from the overseas department of Martinique.

BIOGRAPHY

Hyppolite Cadou was born in Gros-Morne, Martinique, France, on 16 August 1909. He was the fifth of seven children in his family, which included three girls and four boys. He began his professional journey at the age of 18 as an apprentice distiller at the Saint-Etienne distillery in Gros-Morne. Later, he worked in mechanics before concluding his career as a farm worker.

Cadou was married to a woman named Josephine, but the couple had no children. After Josephine passed away following a long illness, he lived for many years in Saint-Joseph. As a widower, he eventually moved to live with his brother in Rivière-Salée, and later returned to his hometown, where he lived with his niece for over a decade.

In March 2000, he transitioned to a retirement home, where he adapted quickly to his new surroundings. Previously, he had been deeply involved in his parish in Gros-Morne, demonstrating profound spiritual devotion. He was often seen with his rosary in hand and never ate breakfast before receiving the Holy Eucharist. By the age of 110, he was reported to be completely blind.

Hyppolite Cadou passed away in Le Lamentin, Martinique, on 13 March 2020, at the age of 110 years, 210 days.
