Eleanor Ramey was born in Lexington, Kentucky, USA, on 3 August 1907, to parents Robert H. Harrold and Lucille Henderson. She had a brother. She spent her formative years in Chicago, Illinois, before returning to Kentucky to attend Kentucky State University.
After graduating, she married her college sweetheart, Marion Ramey, and moved to Dayton, Ohio, where Marion was teaching. She, too, began her 30+ year teaching career with Dayton Public Schools. A faithful and loyal member of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, she was also an active participant in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Beta Eta Omega Chapter. In 2008, she was honored as a Diamond Soror for more than 75 years of service.
Eleanor Ramey passed away in Dayton, Ohio, on 28 January 2018, at the age of 110 years, 178 days.
