Effie Jane Kindred (née Baldwin) was an American supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Effie Jane Kindred was born in Cecil, Alabama, USA, on 10 November 1908. She was one of 16 children born to William Baldwin and Leona Reynolds. She attended Jones Chapel Elementary School and lived her entire life in Bullock County.

A devout Christian from an early age, Effie joined Mountain View Baptist Church. She later married Charlie D. (Dan) Kindred, a member of a family active in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. Married for over 60 years, Effie embraced her husband’s family church, Jones Chapel AME Zion Church, where she served faithfully as a Missionary, Class Leader, Sunday School Teacher, and member of the Usher Board. Effie had a family deeply rooted in military service: a brother-in-law who served in World War I, a brother in World War II, a nephew in the Korean War, and a son who served in Vietnam. She was the mother of seven children. She faced the loss of one of her twin boys at the age of five due to complications from measles and her eldest son, James, in December 2000.

Kindred attributed her longevity to her strong faith in God, a dedicated work ethic, and a life free from smoking and alcohol. When asked at the age of 100 what had sustained her through such a long life, she replied that she simply lived the life God had planned for her and found happiness in doing so.

For the last 11 years of her life, she resided at Southern Springs Nursing Home in Union Springs. At the age of 99, she reluctantly moved there, still insisting she could take care of herself. She passed away there on 10 April 2019. She was survived by five of her children, 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great grandchildren.
