BIOGRAPHY

Driss was born in Hyde Park, Chicago, Illinois, USA, on 1 January 1907. She was the youngest of seven daughters born to parents Hyman Axelrod (1862–1942) and Jennie Levy (1868–1939). Her father was born in the present-day Poland, and her mother in the present-day Belarus.

In 1927, she got her first teaching job. She married Stuart M. Driss (1905–1991). The couple had no children. She taught first and second graders in Chicago Public School until she had to retire in 1971.

Driss passed away in Chicago, Illinois, USA, on 5 November 2017, at the age of 110 years, 308 days.
