BIOGRAPHY

Trembly was born in Barbour County, West Virginia, USA, on 3 December 1875 (claimed 1873).

At some point, she married Robert Finley. Throughout most of her life, she was a homemaker in Buckhannon. Alongside her first husband, she oversaw a farm, prepared daily meals for the numerous farm workers, and accompanied her husband on cattle drives across the country. She had no children of her own but raised six orphaned children left by relatives who had passed away.

Trembly outlived her first husband, and at the age of 85, she married Clarence Trembly, who was 12 years her junior. Her second husband passed away in 1978.

Following stays with relatives in Wintersville, Ohio, and Garards Fort, Pennsylvania, she subsequently moved in with her grandniece, Martha Offutt, in Fairmont in 1982. On her 110th birthday, her grandniece described her as a person with a good sense of humor, always able to find something to laugh about. According to her grandniece, “she didn’t believe in doctors, and she was never sick.”

Trembly passed away in Fairmont, West Virginia, USA, on 8 April 1986, at the age of 110 years, 126 days.

RECOGNITION

In December 1985, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming the second documented supercentenarian in the U.S. state of West Virginia, after Lucy Reynolds. Consequently, at the time of her passing, she was the oldest living person in the state. However, she never surpassed Reynolds’ final age, thus maintaining the title of the state’s second-oldest person ever until Ettie Mae Greene surpassed her final age.

Trembly was also the second documented supercentenarian born in West Virginia, following Catherine Dodson just several months prior. Trembly surpassed Dodson’s final age in January 1986, thus becoming the oldest native of West Virginia ever recorded. She held the title until Greene surpassed her final age in January 1988.

Her age was verified by Jimmy Lindberg, and validated by LongeviQuest on 16 February 2024.
